Magnetic particle testing – also known as flux testing – is a method for detecting surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials.
Our MPJ and MPC crack detection systems magnetise workpieces, or, in the case of large workpieces, only a specific section. This creates magnetic field lines that run parallel to the surface. Defects and cracks that lie perpendicular to the field lines generate a stray magnetic field, which results in the formation of magnetic poles. When iron powder is then applied, it accumulates at the perpendicular defects or cracks.
